Me? Start a blog? Ha! ....What's a blog?

“Do you blog? You should. I find everything you just said so fascinating — I would read it for sure.”

That’s what a co-worker  said to me after I finished excitedly spilling out information about home remedies and homegrown whole-food cooking… that I’m not even sure she actually asked for.

“Ummm… no,” I said. “I’ve never blogged. I’m not even sure I really know what blogging is. And I definitely don’t think I have enough interesting things to write about that anyone would want to read.”

“Girl, you should really think about it,” she replied.

And those words have been repeating in my head on a loop ever since that conversation in the lunchroom at the feed mill where we worked.

So here we are, Paula… let’s give this a whirl.

For most of my life, I felt like I was drifting. I never really knew what I wanted to do with myself. I never found that one thing people talk about — the thing that lights a fire in you.

I had my children young and raised them the best I could. I went to baseball games and Christmas pageants. I poured my energy into watching them grow into the beautiful women I always knew they would become.

I worked jobs to support my family and did the best I could. But I always envied those people who had careers they were passionate about — the kind that made them excited to go to work every day.

I often wondered… what must that be like?

Then I planted my first garden.

Holy moly, let me tell you — that woke something inside of me that I didn’t even know was there.

The first time I planted a seed and watched it sprout into a living plant that produced food for my family… I was hooked. Before the season was even finished, I was already planning my next garden — bigger and better.

What started as a hobby during Covid somehow grew into something that now completely consumes me.

For the first time in my life, I feel that fire — the kind that makes you want to learn more, do more, and try more. The kind that pushes you to keep expanding your skills and knowledge and apply them to everyday life.

Now let me be clear — I am not a professional. I am probably the farthest thing from it. I have no formal education in horticulture, homesteading, or natural healing.

But I am learning every single day.

I’m constantly researching, reading, watching YouTube videos, experimenting, failing, trying again, and slowly weaving these skills into my everyday life.

There have been plenty of failures — believe me — but there have also been some pretty great successes.

And I love sharing them with anyone who will listen.

So maybe instead of rambling on to the people in my life — who might think I’m a little nuts, or maybe just a little tired of hearing about it — I can find a tribe of people who are just as excited about this homegrown life as I am.

Through this blog I’ll share my trials, my wins, and my failures.

I’ll tell you a bit about my life and how I got here. Maybe we can learn together and grow into the homesteading, homegrown goddesses and gods we are… or at least the ones we hope to become.

Follow along as I explore old-fashioned and forgotten skills, along with some new ones too.

I’ll tell you what worked for me… and what absolutely did not.

You can laugh at my total naïve inexperience in the beginning and help me celebrate how far I’ve come along the way.

I can’t wait to start this journey with you.

Until next time — don’t be afraid to try something new.

It might work.
It might not.

But until you try… you’ll never know.
