Is Beef Tallow Really Good For My Skin?
Share
This is a question I’m asked often, and here’s my honest answer:
Yes — I believe it is.
I’m not a doctor or a scientist, and I don’t have a fancy degree. What I can share is what I’ve learned through research, personal experience, and the feedback from many loyal customers who have used these products and loved them.
Research shows that tallow has been used in skincare for thousands of years. Some of the earliest recorded uses date back to the ancient Egyptians — and one thing we know for sure is that those Egyptians were incredibly innovative when it came to natural beauty and skincare.
Fast forward to medieval Europe, and tallow was a household staple used by royalty and peasants alike. It was commonly used to make soaps, salves, and balms… and of course, it was also used in cooking.
It’s not surprising that early pioneers brought this knowledge with them to the New World, where it continued to be used and passed down through generations. By the 1800s, tallow was often combined with oils and botanical essences to create more luxurious skincare preparations.
Unfortunately, somewhere along the way in the 20th century, many of these traditional skills and recipes began to disappear. Natural ingredients that had been trusted for generations were gradually replaced with synthetic products promising to keep us young and beautiful.
Convenience and mass production took over, and many of the simple, time-honoured ingredients our grandparents relied on quietly faded into the background.
But in recent years, many people have begun rediscovering these traditional approaches to skincare. There is a growing appreciation for simple ingredients, recognizable formulas, and products made in small batches with care.
In many ways, using tallow for skincare isn’t really a new idea at all — it’s simply a return to something people trusted for centuries.
Tallow is naturally rich in beneficial fatty acids such as oleic acid, stearic acid, and palmitoleic acid. These fatty acids play an important role in maintaining healthy skin by helping to soften, protect, and nourish the skin while supporting its natural moisture balance.
Many people also find that products rich in these fatty acids help skin appear smoother and more hydrated, which can soften the appearance of fine lines and dryness.
In addition to these fatty acids, high-quality beef tallow naturally contains vitamins A, D, E, and K — nutrients that are well known for supporting healthy-looking skin.
When you combine these naturally occurring fats and vitamins, you end up with a simple, traditional ingredient that provides many of the elements our skin needs to stay nourished and replenished.
One thing I can say with certainty is that I have never received so many compliments on my skin as I have since I started using tallow every day. It has become part of my daily routine, and I don’t see myself going back.
There is something comforting about knowing exactly what you are putting on your skin — simple, natural ingredients that people have trusted for generations.
